As part of longer process, leadingb up to the Leadership Summit In Mexico this Auguts, a working group met in Monaco on Access to treatment care and support. This formulated some key issues, that we would like to open up to discussion to the whole PLWH community.
1. How do we carry out research and document our work and experiences for use as an advocacy tool and how do we engage, mentor, and train a new generation of activists? Specifically, people living with HIV need to know about and become experts on quality of standard, knowledge of trade, patent laws, HIV science, procurement standards, treatment side effects, pediatric diagnosis, treatment, care and support, etc.
2. How do we ensure that there is long term sustainable financing and that, national governments do not reduce national commitments, how do PLWH oversee and hold our leaders accountable.
3. Can we have Universal Access without Universal Standards?
4. What needs to be done to continue drive down the costs of ARV’s, diagnostics, OI drugs, accessing the newest and effective treatment regimes as soon as possible?
5. How do we change the common perception that access to treatment is just about pills? What does treatment care and support access mean?
6. Is increasing access to treatment enhancing stigma? What are the best modes to ensure uptake of treatment - can we deal with ACTS in isolation, particularly where vulnerable groups have specific urgent needs?
7. How do we advocate with access to treatment when there is little respect for our diversity, human rights, people in conflict situations and gender equity?
Is there more that this? How do we prove our assertions? Please comment on the various stories below or add new ones that you think need addressing.
